We live in a region that has been negatively impacted by the loss of jobs especially in coal and other related industry sectors.  This has had a negative influence on the entire economy in our region.  We must look for ways to diversify our economy and one way is through entrepreneurship.  Economic Development is a team sport and not an individual sport.  We must work together.  The City of Bluefield has taken steps to develop strategic partnerships with Bluefield State College, the Center for Applied Research and Technology and other groups and make them part of our team.  One of those partners is VT Knowledge Works.

The City of Bluefield’s Office of Community & Economic Development is pleased to announce a joint collaboration with VT Knowledge Works a subsidiary of the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center to offer the Entrepreneurship Option workshop.  The workshop will help identify what it takes and what it means to be a true entrepreneur instead of an employee, with focus on fundamental factors that govern startup success, powerful habits used by good manager, and MOXIE and why it matters.  It will be held on August 4th in downtown Bluefield, WV.  Please see the attached flyer with more details and how to sign up to attend.  Anyone in the region is invited to attend.  If you have additional questions please feel free to contact Jim Spencer at jspencer@cityofbluefield.com or (304)327-2401 Ext. 2405
