BLUEFIELD WV ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE.

WHAT WE DO

INSPIRING ECONOMIC GROWTH

SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESSES

The Bluefield West Virginia Economic Development Authority (BEDA) has enacted a three-prong approach to economic growth in the City and the surrounding region:

  • To support existing business and industry by helping them diversify and grow through a Business Retention and Expansion Program (BR&E)

  • Cultivate entrepreneurship and innovation

  • To attract new industry, especially in the "TEAM" sectors. TEAM stands for Technology, Energy, and Advanced Manufacturing

WHO WE ARE

The City of Bluefield's Board of Directors formed the Community & Economic Development Department (CED) to take an aggressive approach to economic and community development for the City. In 2019, the city received a grant to help create BEDA under the Blueprint Community Initiative.

OUR STORY

Founded in 1889 and located in Mercer County on the southern border of West Virginia, the City of Bluefield was built on the coal and railroad industries. Bluefield was the retail, medical, and financial hub of the region. Nestled along the base of the East River Mountain Range, the Bluefield micropolitan region is a mountainous community of 100,093 residents spread across 45,000 households in two counties, anchored by the city with a population of 9,600+.

Known as "Nature's Air-Conditioned City", lemonade is distributed throughout the community when the temperature reaches 90 degrees. Bluefield is home to a diverse population, loyal employees, higher education, quality healthcare, unique dining, boutiques, galleries, outdoor recreation, and great small-town hospitality.
